What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?
Definition
PRP is an autologous platelet concentrate obtained from your own blood containing growth factors and bioactive proteins. Through centrifugation, platelets are separated and concentrated (up to 5-10 times more than in normal blood), creating a powerful natural reparative agent.
Physiological Benefit
Concentrated platelets release growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, EGF) that stimulate cell proliferation, accelerate healing, improve tissue vascularization, and modulate inflammatory response. It's effective for tendinitis, ligament injuries, early osteoarthritis, and muscle injuries.
How It Works
A blood sample is drawn (similar to a lab test), processed in a specialized centrifuge to concentrate platelets, and the resulting PRP is infiltrated with ultrasound-guided precision into the injured tissue. The entire process takes approximately 45-60 minutes.

Is PRP treatment painful?
Blood extraction is similar to a common lab test. The infiltration is performed with local anesthesia, so discomfort is minimal. Afterward, there may be mild pain managed with ice and simple analgesics.
What care should I take after PRP?
Avoid anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, naproxen) for 7-10 days as they interfere with the healing process. Relative rest for the first 24-48 hours. Do not apply ice for the first 24 hours. You can resume activity progressively according to medical indications.
How many PRP sessions do I need?
It depends on the injury. Acute injuries may respond with 1-2 applications. Chronic conditions or osteoarthritis generally require 2-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results.
